One of the teams that disappointed at the Bahrain Grand Prix is Aston Martin. Especially considering their speed in 2020, the partnership with Mercedes and their big ambitions, their speed compared to other teams in the midfield was underwhelming. Kees van de Grint calls the team in Slipstream the biggest flop of the weekend.

Aston Martin scored just one point during the first race weekend of 2021 and was at best the sixth team in the field. For that position it had to contend with Alpine and even Alfa Romeo. "Aston Martin is just as bad with their progression, almost equal to Haas in percentage. So I think that's a letdown," said Van de Grint.

Aston Martin has taken problems from Mercedes

Although that is just bad, according to Van de Grint you can also see the difference with a top team like Mercedes. Mercedes had similar problems in the winter test but were able to turn that around in two weeks. Aston Martin, who imported the problems from Mercedes as it were, clearly can't do that. On top of that, their new top driver isn't feeling well either.

"He [Vettel] has also really disappointed as a driver. He couldn't impress in terms of speed. I knew he was having problems getting close to Stroll in the simulator too. Well, it showed on the track as well. And to blame the other guy [Ocon] for that incident, that was a bit of childish complaining", said Van de Grint.
