Perez had signed a multi-year contract with Racing Point and was therefore under the impression that he would be racing for Aston Martin in 2021. However, nothing could be further from the truth. Sebastian Vettel was available on the market and Lawrence Stroll found a clause in Perez's contract that allowed him to swap the Mexican for the four-time world champion.
Perez wants the world title
''I was aware of the campaign by Mexican fans to keep me in Formula 1 and that was very special. It was a big blow for me when I lost my seat, because I didn't expect it. I had given everything for that team, but luckily I had a lot of fans and people around me who supported me right away and that kept me motivated,'' Perez said in Red Bull's video.
Max Verstappen's new teammate will drive a Honda engine for the first time in 2021, in the final year in F1 for Honda. ''I am looking forward to that enormously. I am aware that everyone at Honda is working hard for their last season in the sport and with the whole Red Bull family we hope to finish at the top together. Hopefully we will give Honda that title in the last year," concluded the Mexican.
