The Mercedes team is now considered a giant in the world of Formula 1, but they too started out small. The current team entered the sport in 1999 as BAR and although they have expanded considerably over the years, the core of their factory has remained unchanged. Until this year, when the so-called 'race bays' will finally be renewed.

Functionality above all else

The "race bays", as the team calls them, are the workshops in the factory where the cars of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas are built. They look the same for many teams: clinical and functional.

The fact that Mercedes did not feel the need to innovate in this area in recent years indicates that they too prioritised functionality. Now that all records have been broken, they have decided to freshen up the workshop. In the tweet below, the differences are clearly visible.
