It was the seventh time this season that Max Verstappen shared the podium with two Mercedes drivers, his ninth podium finish in total. Despite the great results, the Dutchman had no more than a supporting role to play.

Best supporting role

Martin Brundle discusses the race of the Dutchman in his new column for Sky. "Max Verstappen once again had to play best supporting role to the Merc maestros despite a contrary tyre strategy, and not having the speed in the car to do any more than just annoy the Merc boys for a while," concludes the British commentator.

Albon on thin ice

Verstappen's teammate Alexander Albon again had a disappointing performance. "Verstappen lapped his team-mate Alex Albon, who then proceeded to hang onto Max's tail and matching his personal fastest lap in the race, although Max wasn't in the greatest hurry I suspect in his lonely third place.”

Brundle can see that Albon has the speed, but that doesn't translate into qualifying or consistent racing. Something that doesn't bode well for the future of the Thai at Red Bull. "It's leaving him on very thin ice as the team are effectively fighting with one arm behind their back.”
