Gasly: 'Think it could be amazing if we could see something like this in F1'

Pierre Gasly says he would find it unbelievable if the close battles we're seeing in MotoGP were to be replicated in Formula 1. Fabio Quartararo is leading the championship with an independent team. From 2022, the rules will be changed in F1 in such a way that this should also be possible in the pinnacle of motorsport.

2022 will not change much immediately

Gasly believes that at the beginning of the new era, leading teams such as Mercedes and Red Bull Racing will set the pace. "I think we should not underestimate the knowledge the top teams have gained and the facilities they have built," says the Frenchman at the Spanish branch of Motorsport.com.

"The costs will be reduced to make things more even between everyone, but I think it will still take a few years. It's not a short-term project, it's a long-term project," Gasly continues.

Enjoying MotoGP

Gasly therefore does not yet expect the top teams to fight with the midfield teams in 2022. "But I hope we can see something like MotoGP, where my good friend Fabio Quartararo, for example, can fight in a independent team for the championship. I think it can be amazing if we can see something like this in Formula 1," concluded the AlphaTauri driver.
