Ralf Schumacher has an idea for Red Bull Racing. After it was announced this morning that Honda will stop supplying engines from 2022 onwards, the Austrian racing stable has to look for a new supplier of the power source.

Schumacher, a former F1 driver and brother of Michael Schumacher, does not see a collaboration with French Renault happening so quickly, he says to Sky Sports Deutschland. A collaboration with Mercedes also seems very unlikely to him. He does not even mention Ferrari as a possibility. So, according to him, there is only one option left: Red Bull has to build its own engines.

"Have the power and the means"

"They certainly have the strength and the resources for this," said the 45-year-old German. "From a financial point of view it will not be a problem. In addition, with Honda, they have a partner who can offer help during the transition phase. Even in 2021 they will get a motor from Honda. Perhaps Red Bull can take over the development department in Milton Keynes after that year. Then they will be able to finance it themselves."

Schumacher still sees a bright future for Max Verstappen and his team. He certainly sees opportunities to go for victories. "Honda is going to give full throttle next year, I'm sure of that. They will certainly want to give Verstappen the opportunity to go for the world title in 2021".
