Ricciardo hopes for a strong Norris: "Will have the same effect as Verstappen"

This season Daniel Ricciardo will still be driving for Renault, but next year he will make the switch to McLaren. The Australian is hoping for a competitive teammate in both teams.

In his first year at Renault Daniel Ricciardo was not able to make the progress he had hoped for. The Australian therefore sees a better chance with the McLaren team, which will start driving Mercedes engines in 2021.

Ricciardo also hopes to find a strong team mate in the team. "At Red Bull Racing it felt as if Max Verstappen and I brought the best out of the other. We pushed each other to the limit. I would love it if I could have the same effect with Lando Norris," the smiling driver explains at the F1 Nation podcast.

Moreover, the Australian is already praising his future teammate. "I expect a lot from him. His rookie year was very strong and I'm pretty sure he has surpassed Carlos Sainz".

In the coming season Ricciardo will only have to fight Esteban Ocon, who has been away from Formula 1 for a year. "What I have next year with Lando is the same thing I have this year with Esteban. I haven't been able to compete against him as a teammate yet, but I'm looking forward to seeing those young ankle biters coming at me", Ricciardo said.
