Formula 1 is busy working on a new budget cap, but Jean Todt does not believe in miracles. According to the boss of the FIA, there will be no fairy tales in F1. A hopeful thought...

Todt doesn't want to dream

Todt said earlier that the difference between the top teams and the smaller teams will still be very big. With a budget cap of 150 million dollars top teams still spend double and according to Todt that will only increase. What they cut back on one, is added to the other.

''We shouldn't fool ourselves. Whether we have a budget cap of 120, 130 or 140 million dollars, it remains with exceptions. The large teams spend more on those exceptions than on the expenses that fall under the budget cap and also have the intention to increase those costs when the budget cap goes into effect'', says Todt in conversation with Auto, Motor und Sport.

Little hope

So the question is to what extent will the top teams be shortened? In a number of areas the teams will be reduced, but in other areas they will be able to spend more. Small teams will not be able to do this and will always go under to the big teams in that area. According to Todt, fairy tales are not to be expected in F1.

''I don't believe in miracles. The difference between the top teams and the smaller teams needs to be reduced, but we shouldn't start dreaming. A small team will never be able to fight on a regular basis with a top team'', said the boss of the FIA. So despite a new budget cap there is little hope for the small teams in F1.
