McLaren team principal has said he is pleased to have scored more "important" points after a "difficult" weekend at the German Grand Prix.

The team managed to put themselves further apart from Renault in the battle for the midfield teams after Carlos Sainz managed to finish P5 after having gone off the track at one point like many other drivers had done so.

Renault didn’t manage to score any points after Daniel Ricciardo’s engine blew and Nico Hulkenberg, who was running in a strong P2 after safety cars and drivers going off the track, slid into the wall.

Seidl said to the McLaren website: “There was so much going on in this race that it's actually difficult to recap everything that happened right now.

“It was great for us to score some more important points after a difficult race weekend compared to our main competitors.

“Carlos delivered a great drive, especially after his 'off' in the middle of the race, to battle through together with the engineering team and score this P5.”

He went on to say how it was a shame Lando Norris didn’t score any more points, especially after being ahead of Sainz after his spin.

“Lando’s starting position was further compromised today when we needed to change the battery pack and MGU-K this morning,” he added.

“He made up places and actually ran ahead of Carlos after his spin, but unfortunately Lando’s car lost all engine power in the middle of the race, which took away the possibility for him to have a similar race to Carlos and score more points.”

Seidl lastly added that they hope to continue progress at Hungary, the last race before the summer break.

“Next stop Hungary, where we aim to continue our progress,” he said.
