Daniel Ricciardo says Renault could knock McLaren out of the 'best of the rest' spot in Formula 1 behind the top three teams.

Ricciardo showed the French team's pace in final practice ahead of qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix, finishing the session seventh and knocking Lando Norris one place back in the order.

Speaking on Friday, the Australian driver admitted that he was aiming for the British team in the hopes of dethroning them from their fourth in the constructor standings.

"It's going to be tight but come tomorrow in qualifying we'll have the car to put us in a shot for Q3," Ricciardo told media.

"Today it wasn't perfect but I know what we can do to make it better.

"It should be close. McLaren looks strong, Haas as well over one lap. But I would say that McLaren is the main competitor in the midfield at the moment, with Sainz.

"He did a quick run on the low fuel and also the high fuel run looked good. But they'll still be in reach so we'll try and get them."

Renault might have one less team to worry about after Haas' strong Friday form evaporated in FP3, with Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean finishing down in 12th and 17th places respectively
