Hamilton on 2019 so far: "It's been quite an average performance from myself"

Despite already leading the race for the World Championship by 17 points, Lewis Hamilton has been critical of his performances so far this season, describing them as "average" following his win in Monaco.

The Brit has won four races in 2019 in Bahrain, China, Spain and most recently Monaco where he held off pressure from Max Verstappen and survived severe tyre problems to open up a bigger lead at the top. The five-time World Champion leads his teammate, Valtteri Bottas by 17 points with the Silver Arrows on top of the podium at every race this season.

Despite being impressive at every race so far this season, Hamilton seemed dissatisfied with his performances this year saying in an interview with Motorsport: "I definitely feel that it's been quite an average performance from myself.

"Maybe above average, but generally quite average for the first six races.

"I feel like I've got the best I could get [from the results], I've arrived prepared, the best prepared I could be.

"But in terms of extracting the true performance from the car, I feel like I've struggled a little bit in these six races.

"Without doubt, it's going to improve as the knowledge you gain over the season."
