Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas has dubbed his Monaco Grand Prix "a Sunday drive" as the Finn was in no man's land for the bulk of the race, sitting pretty in P4 and eventually finishing third because of Max Verstappen's five-second penalty that was caused in the pitlane with Bottas.

Bottas did go for the fastest lap in the latter stages of the race, backing off Sebastian Vettel in third to charge his battery for a flying lap, but Pierre Gasly broke his time quite comfortably as the Frenchman had stopped for new rubber specifically to get the fastest lap.

Still, a podium finish for Bottas after all, although it's not ideal given his teammate Lewis Hamilton won the race and has extended his championship lead over Bottas now.

"It's obviously disappointing for me, I think the speed was there and I was feeling good in the car," the 29-year-old said post-race.

"It was small margins yesterday and that made today difficult. Max got me in the pitlane and left me with no room and then I was stuck behind, it was like a Sunday drive," he referenced to the pitlane incident where he and Verstappen went side-by-side, eventually earning the Dutchman the penalty.
