Vettel knows Ferrari need to "dig deeper" after disappointing qualifying

Ferrari star Sebastian Vettel knows his team will have to "dig deeper" if they want to take the championship fight to Mercedes, as the German qualified in fourth place and over half a second behind the team's rivals.

It was another disappointing outing for Ferrari altogether, with Charles Leclerc already going out in Q1 after a tactical error. The home driver was left in rather than going for a second run and dropped like a stone in the standings, eventually ending in P16.

For Vettel, who crashed earlier on Saturday during FP3, it is a case of his team having to go back to the drawing board and figure their problems out.

"This morning has nothing to do with that [qualifying] so I don't want to shift the blame - I've been many times around here," he told BBC Sport when asked whether the FP3 crash had an impact on his qualifying performance.

"We struggled to get the tyres to work and you don't get the feel you want. The front tyres did not work.

"We need to dig deeper. For now it is what it is, we need to accept, even if we don't want to," he concluded.
