Romain Grosjean retired from the Bahrain Grand Prix to bring his 2019 Formula 1 DNF tally to two out of two. The Frenchman had big contact in the opening stages of the race, and a puncture caused significant floor damage.

Kevin Magnussen was also pointless in Bahrain, dropping Haas to 6th in the constructors' standings, level with McLaren. Grosjean picked up a grid penalty after holding up Lando Norris in qualifying. He believes he would have been able to bring home some points for the American team had this penalty not been awarded.

"That’s always the risk when you start not where you want to start. We should have been starting eighth today, but it is what it is," Grosjean said in Haas' race recap.

“I didn’t see anything at the start, I got hit from behind, then the car was too damaged to continue ultimately, but I’d lost so much time with the initial rear puncture heading to the pits."

Grosjean's lost mileage will be made up in the Bahrain tests on Tuesday. He hopes the team will discover why the car isn't at the level he wants it.

"I think we’ll have a good test on Tuesday to understand what happened today with the pace of the car. It’s obviously not performing as we want it to," Grosjean added.
