Piastri lashes out at Stroll: 'drove like it was his first go-kart race'
Oscar Piastri made a passing comment at the press conference, slamming Lance Stroll. The Australian felt that Stroll needed to get out of the way quicker in the closing stages of the race. The McLaren driver was first hunting down Carlos Sainz and then the race leader Charles Leclerc.
In the end, Piastri and Lando Norris successfully managed to overtake Sainz as the Spanish driver's tyres started to lose grip. But Leclerc proved to be too strong and went on to win the race. Piastri feels he lost a bit of time behind Stroll.
Piastri furious at Stroll
Piastri spoke about the final stint where he had the tyre advantage. "I asked straight away what pace I needed to do to go and get Charles. The pace I needed was basically what I did for the first few laps. At that point I was pretty optimistic. I had lost a decent amount of time behind Carlos. He had Stroll driving like it was his first go-kart race. I don't know what went through his brain when he saw his blue flag, but that cost another second," said Piastri.
"I needed that stint to be perfect to win that race. Those little things, ultimately, is what cost us a bit of a chance. It would have been a long shot anyway. It was certainly not far off from being able to achieve it. I was pushing flat out to try and do it. I couldn't have gone any faster than that. I just came up a bit short," Piastri reflected.
