Toto Wolff is worried that his team will lose support if they become too dominant.

Many sports fans like an underdog success story. A team who are not expected to do well who end up fighting and winning against all the odds. Mercedes are not that team. They have been dominating for years winning multiple world titles.

Often in sports fans become bored by a team who dominate for too long. Toto Wolff has recognised this as an issue and has tried to remove Mercedes from any pride that comes with being so dominant.

"I think it is in the nature of the fan that you cheer for the underdog," Wolff told Reuters. "Serial winners lose a little bit of appeal."

"What we are trying to do is to approach our sport and our participation with modesty and humility, not take anything for granted. We should never ever have a feeling of entitlement of winning.

"You can, to a certain degree, if you stay true to these values continue to grow your fan following and continue to have the fans cheering for you although you have won a few times in a row,"

It should be an exciting few years with many fans being split over supporting Mercedes to beat Ferraris record and those who don't wish them to succeed.

The Mercedes boss said, "It's another interesting angle of the Formula One narrative."
