Williams chief technical officer Paddy Lowe has defended the changes that are set to happen for the 2019 season; claiming they will definitely improve racing.

New regulations are being put in place for the '19 season, with the aim from owners Liberty Media of making the sport more entertaining and consequently attract a wider audience.

A few team principals of F1 teams have expressed their doubts whether these changes will have an impact on the quality of the racing.

There are set to be completely new front wing designs next season, and also the maximum fuel limit is expected to rise from 105kg to 110kg.

"It seems to be popular to say the aerodynamic changes that we're making won't make any difference," Lowe said to RaceFans. "But I can tell you for sure, it'll make a lot more of a difference than a fuel limit."

However, Lowe was not having an increased fuel allocation would have any impact on the quality of racing: "I don't believe that it's going to make an difference to anything. That's my opinion.

"You put in fuel that makes sense for your race. That's always been done and it always involves a bit of fuel saving. Cars are often doing what we call 'lift and coast'. They do it for tyres more than fuel as well. There might be the odd race where it makes a little bit of difference."
