Lewis Hamilton and George Russell did not get through to SQ3 in the sprint shootout and will therefore start the sprint race from outside the top ten. Martin Brundle sees Mercedes' worries only growing.

''The car varies from session to session, day to day and let alone race to race. They are getting very frustrated with this car now and Lewis doesn't want any more excuses either. There is nothing to experiment with this car and they just don't get through to the top ten in the shootout,'' Brundle told Sky Sports.

What is going wrong at Mercedes?

''I think they are really shaking their heads now and asking themselves: 'What should we do?' This is the third year of 'ground-effect' regulations. What should we do with this car to find the ideal balance?''

For Mercedes, it will be mainly frustrating to see two customers doing much better. McLaren has been the better this whole season and in Miami, Aston Martin was also better in qualifying with both drivers. As a factory team, Mercedes will want to avoid dropping to fifth place in the rankings and will want to rectify their performances quickly.
