Sky Sports F1 pundit believes the driver market is about to 'erupt'

Ex-F1 driver Anthony Davidson thinks that the "Driver market is about to erupt", and believes that there will be more big moves soon as over half of the F1 grid's contracts will expire at the end of the 2024 season.

After Lewis Hamilton's shock move to Ferrari earlier this year, many expected 'Silly season' to be chaotic, and it has doubtlessly lived up to that expectation. Only last week, Hulkenberg announced his move to Sauber (Stake F1) in order to join the Audi team in 2026, leaving an empty seat at Haas. Mercedes are still yet to announce who will partner George Russell next year, and Carlos Sainz has also kept quiet about his future. As well as this, both drivers at Alpine, VCARB and Stake F1 are nearing the end of their current contracts. 

Silly season begins

With this in mind, ex F1 Driver Davidson, who started 24 Grand Prix for Minardi, BAR and Super Aguri, told Sky Sports: "I really get the feeling that the driver market is about to erupt. I don't know if it will happen this weekend, or other weekends coming, but it’s going to happen soon. When it does I’ve just got a feeling that we’re going to have new drivers coming in, drivers that are established here may be leaving. I feel like it’s going to be quite a big turnaround."

After there was no 'Silly season' going into 2024, it's worth keeping an eye on the many changes that are to be expected going into the 2025 season.
