IndyCar has many remarkable moments and during last Sunday's race, there was another. Something very strange happened: a mannequin fell off a bridge on the track.

A special spectator

It was already an entertaining race when 'Georgina', a mannequin put down by track owner George Barber in 2016, fell off the pedestrian bridge at the side of the track, near turn eight on lap 52 of 90.

This caused ex-F2 driver Santino Ferrucci of A.J. Foyt Racing to panic: "That lady hanging from the bridge fell!" Shouted Ferruci over the radio. Ferrucci managed to dodge Georgina, but others weren't as lucky as Ferruci. Car 51 driven by Luca Ghiotto, who was making his debut with Dale Coyne Racing, hit Georgina first, ripping off the poor mannequin's hand.

After the collision, the dummy was taken off the track by marshals during a yellow flag after Sting Ray Robb crashed at turn one. The drivers were able to laugh about it after the race, but winner Scott McLaughlin hopes it won't happen again next year. "I love the artistic stuff, but it probably doesn’t need to be above the track to cause a yellow like that. It’s probably what will change next year maybe."
