Norris contradicts Verstappen: 'They didn't have a bad race'

6 April - 10:07

Lando Norris does not have the same opinion as Max Verstappen about the Red Bull's long runs. Where Verstappen was moderately satisfied after his pole position, he said the long runs were not yet great. The McLaren driver gives his expectations for Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix and what to expect at Suzuka.

Norris on battles with Verstappen

"I don't know. There is not a lot to do," Norris began. "The first lap, try and get a good start. Obviously, last year I was side by side with Max into turn one, so hopefully trying to redo that. But it's tricky. They're quick. They complained about their race pace, but I don't think they've had a bad race in the last four or five years, so I think they're going to be good tomorrow."

Norris explained who he felt about trying to chase Verstappen in 2023: "They complained about their race pace, but I don't think they've had a bad race in the last four or five years, so I think they're going to be good tomorrow. Of course, you got a lot of pressure from behind. We have to keep an eye on the mirrors. But at the same time, I want to go forward and I think we have a place to stay where we are. So that's my goal," conclueded the Briton from Bristol. Where Verstappen might get help from Perez, Norris will have to go for it all alone. Indeed, teammate Oscar Piastri did not get beyond sixth place on the grid.
