The current Formula 1 season is on at its fourth Grand Prix, yet much is about what next season's grid will look like. Lewis Hamilton will drive for Ferrari, but what will happen at Red Bull. Fernando Alonso is much mentioned to drive alongside Max Verstappen next year, but Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko does not see this happening.

Alonso has an expiring contract at Aston Martin and the 42-year-old driver seems only too happy to be in the Red Bull himself. The contract of Sergio Perez, Verstappen's current teammate, expires at the end of this season, but there are more competitors on the coast for the Spaniard. Carlos Sainz, for instance, is also named as a candidate for the second Red Bull seat.

Marko on Alonso at Red Bull alongside Verstappen

Marko does not think Alonso will join Red Bull Racing alongside Verstappen, the Austrian explained. "I think that would be difficult. Sergio Perez's contract expires at the end of this year. I don't know why but it's only April and the driver discussion is already in full swing," the Austrian told Formel1.de.

Marko also knows that drivers see a spot opening up at the Austrian constructor. "Many drivers know that Sergio's contract is expiring and they want to see what is possible at Red Bull," Marko believes. Verstappen himself also talked about whether Alonso's arrival would be so convenient or not.
