Russell reacts to turmoil at Red Bull: 'That's a shame'

To say things are unsettled at Red Bull Racing is an understatement. Plenty of stories are circulating at the moment, with Christian Horner often playing an unwanted leading role. The team boss is under a magnifying glass following an already completed investigation into cross-border behaviour, but the unrest at the Austrian team of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez has all but disappeared. The other drivers, such as George Russell, see it all happening in amazement.

"I feel that the racing needs to be at the forefront of everything, and this is what we all love and what we're here to fight for, and it's a shame when that isn't at the forefront of the media attention. But equally, Formula One is at the forefront of technology. Also, I think from an entertainment standpoint, I think we've been really pushing the boundaries in the last few years," Russell said.

Russell insists on inclusivity

But, Russell continued: "we do need to create an environment that is inclusive for everybody. We're seeing the demographic change over the past couple of years and it does need to be inclusive. So, unfortunately, you need to have these hard conversations and questions [about the Hornber case]. And you want to see transparency within all of these reports, because ultimately until we see the facts, we can't really comment," Russell said.

It is possible that all the turmoil will lead to Max Verstappen, the team's star driver, seeking refuge elsewhere. Russell already indicated he would welcome the Dutchman with open arms at Mercedes if Verstappen decides to look elsewhere.
