Lewis Hamilton's transfer to Ferrari seems to have been very last-minute and announced. The Mercedes employees, for instance, had to come to the factory unexpectedly to hear the news. Even for Lewis Hamilton's brother Nicolas Hamilton, the news came as a surprise when Lewis called him.

On Thursday morning, rumours began to emerge that Hamilton would be heading to Ferrari from 2025. What at first seemed to be one of so many rumours surrounding Hamilton, turned out to be true very quickly. That same evening, both Mercedes and Ferrari came out with press releases confirming the rumours.

For Hamilton's brother, the news also came as a surprise

It seems the news was brought out with some haste. It therefore became imperative for Lewis Hamilton to break the news to his brother before he read it through the media. In a live broadcast on Nicolas Hamilton's Instagram account, he explained how he heard the news. "Yes, it was so surprising. I was, if anyone doesn’t know I do public speaking right, so I was I was doing a public speech actually for Coke yesterday, Coca-Cola, and Lewis called me the night before and I was at dinner so I said ‘Hey bro I’ll call you back when I can’ and then I called him later at night and then he didn’t pick up and he told me he was in bed so I was like ‘Ok no worries’ and then he said, ‘are you around?’. I said ‘I’m just heading into work like I’ve got a speech to do. I’ll catch you like later tonight cause, I’ll be free’ and he’s like ‘I could really do with speaking to you now."

Hamilton's brother says he was also very surprised by the news. So it really seems that the news came unexpected to him too. He continues his story; "I was like ‘Ok give me five minutes’ and then he said ‘Are you in a place where you can talk? Can you talk like without anyone hearing?’ and I was like ‘Yeah’ and then he said, ‘I’m going to Ferrari in 2025’. I was like ‘woah, oh my god, are you joking? That’s crazy!"
