On Wednesday 24 January, the first Formula 2 cars were tearing around a track again. During a test at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain, teams were allowed to send one car onto the track, and the drivers were able to drive. This included Victor Martins.

"The first goal of this shakedown was to have a clean session with no issues, and that’s what we achieved," he told the Formula 2 site. "It was so nice to get back behind the wheel! Everything went fine with no reliability issues. It’s a very positive start," the Frenchman noted.

F2 technical director satisfied

Formula 2 technical director Pierre-Alain Michot was very satisfied. "The purpose of this shakedown was for the teams to understand how the new car operates, to make sure that all systems are working fine together and to understand how everything behaves. We are quite happy with the running achieved today," the Frenchman said.

The start of the new Formula 2 season is at the same time as Formula 1. At least, on the same weekend. Bahrain will host the first Grand Prix of the season on 2 March. The F2 season consists of 28 races.
