After serving as AlphaTauri team boss for many years, Franz Tost stepped down at the end of the 2023 season. What will the 67-year-old Austrian do next? He will remain connected to motorsport, but definitely not in the role of a television analyst. There is a chance that Tost will be retained for the Red Bull family.

Many former drivers and also some former team bosses occasionally appear in front of the cameras of broadcasters to analyse Formula 1. Tost is not made for that, he told Auto Bild in an interview.

"That's definitely not my thing," he laughed. "I would have to give too many political answers. That doesn't suit me. And a lot of people wouldn't be able to live with the truth. Ralf Schumacher, who does that very well, is too straightforward for most people. I would be even more extreme."

Staying linked to Red Bull

Helmut Marko hinted at the end of November that Tost will do standby consultancy for the 2024 and 2025 seasons. If Red Bull or AlphaTauri needs him, he can be contacted for advice. At least, that is how Marko himself outlined it.

Judging by Tost's own words, that may have been a little too far ahead of the game, as an agreement does not seem to be in place yet. "Yes, the talks will take place on 15 January. After that, we will see how I will continue to work for Red Bull. Basically, I will always be connected to motorsport, so I can certainly imagine a consultancy role."
