It has been almost a decade since Michael Schumacher fell into a coma following a tragic skiing accident in Switzerland. How the seven-time world champion and, according to many, the best Formula 1 driver of all time is doing now is being kept secret by the German's family and friends. Former Schumacher team boss Jean Todt, however, is aware of the situation. Speaking to l'Equipe, the Frenchman says the 54-year-old former driver is no longer as we know him.
Schumacher had a great career in Formula 1. After 2012, he stopped racing in the king class of motorsport for good. Just over a year after his retirement, the German suffered his terrible skiing accident, in which he was seriously injured. Since then, the situation surrounding the seven-time world champion has been unknown to the outside world.

Todt on Schumacher situation

Todt does still see Schumacher regularly. As such, he says he is happy to still see his friend: "Michael is here, so I don't miss him. He is no longer the Michael from before. He is different and is beautifully framed by his wife and children who protect him. His life is different, I have the privilege of being able to share moments with him. That's all there is to say. Unfortunately, fate struck him ten years ago and he is no longer the Michael we knew in F1."
