Newly crowned five-time champion Lewis Hamilton says he has "no idea" what has happened to Mercedes' form. Having seemingly re-overtaken Ferrari in the development race, the Silver Arrows have slipped behind once again having struggled so much in Austin and Mexico City.

Despite wrapping up his fifth world drivers title during the Mexican Grand Prix, it was the second race in succession in which Mercedes was third best behind Ferrari and Red Bull in the race.

Having managed to outpace title rival Sebastian Vettel in qualifying to line up third and then move up to second on the first lap, Mercedes struggled with tyre wear as in Texas and were forced to settle for fourth and fifth.

“I still have work to do. I’ve still got to get back to the factory and rally the troops to figure out how we can come back and win these next races." Hamilton admitted after the race.

“I have no idea why I struggled so much in these last two and we all feel the pain of not winning those races.

“We still have the constructors’ championship to win, which I know will mean even more to all the guys back at the factory. So that’s the focus.”

Mercedes is yet to wrap up their fifth constructor's championship with the gap to Ferrari currently at 64 points with 86 points the maximum still available for two one-two finishes in Brazil and Abu Dhabi.
