Haas throw in objection: Potentially more bad news for Perez

Haas has objected to the conduct of the United States Grand Prix almost a fortnight ago. The US Formula One team are exercising their 'right to review', and that has everything to do with track limits. This could potentially change the outcome of the F1 race in Austin.

Haas requests 'right to review' for US GP

Haas believes the track limits, particularly at turn six, were exceeded more often than recorded by the FIA. Race control recorded as many as 35 track limit violations, but according to the F1 team led by Guenther Steiner, there were more.

Haas' argument is that the track limits were also exceeded at turn six but that these violations were not recorded. This is reported by Auto, Motor und Sport. The US racing team are said to have prepared a 28-page file containing new evidence that should show that additional time penalties should be handed out.

Big implications for Perez

Should Haas be ruled in favour, it will not affect the top three. However, it would mean that George Russell, Pierre Gasly, Yuki Tsunoda, Nico Hulkenberg, Valtteri Bottas would benefit substantially. Hulkenberg, for instance, would move up four places and be classified seventh instead of 11th.

For Sergio Perez, it would have disastrous consequences: the Red Bull Racing driver would lose his fourth place in this scenario and instead get only one point at P10. This would hurt his battle with Lewis Hamilton in the World Championship.
