After a fantastic P2 finish at the United States Grand Prix, it was a tough qualifying session for Lewis Hamilton, who could only qualify in sixth place at the Mexican Grand Prix.

Hamilton struggles to find the pace shown last weekend

Around the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City, the seven-time world champion has not been able to find the pace he and his W14 car showed last weekend at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.

Speaking to Sky Sports after qualifying, Hamilton said his car was not suited to the high altitude of the track. "I have been struggling all weekend with the car. The car has been a bit of a nightmare to drive. It just doesn't like this track. We made some good changes going into qualifying. I was much happier with the car. I wish we had done it in the morning.

"Q1 and Q2 weren't looking too bad. Q2, the second lap was great, but the car is just really peaky - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, and I just wasn't able to extract much more from it. In a perfect world, I could have been fifth, but that's about it."

When asked about his chances to earn some more points in Sunday's race, Hamilton concluded by saying, "It's going to be a real challenge in that car tomorrow. Brakes are overheating, and it's going to be hard for us to battle. I don't know what kind of race they are going to have, but it's going to be on the knife edge."
