Sergio Perez finished just outside the podium. The Mexican crossed the line in third place, but a five-second penalty meant he finished behind Pierre Gasly. Verstappen's teammate reacted with disappointment after the race.

Perez had a difficult race. For a long time it looked like he would finish second, but when it started raining late in the race, he made several mistakes. The Red Bull driver braked late at the first corner, then he hit the wall on entering the pit lane. He also went too fast in the pit lane once more, incurring his time penalty.

Undercut from Verstappen

At the start of the race, Perez was still in front of Verstappen, but after an earlier pit stop, the Dutchman passed his teammate again. Perez wondered over the radio if he had been undercut. After the race, he told GPblog and others: "I think in those scenarios, the team just have more information than we do at the time. So it's something we obviously will review during the meeting and I'm sure there is a reason behind it."

Chaotic GP Netherlands

The race then continued, and with heavy rain at the end of the race, it became very difficult to keep the car on the track. "It was chaos, just changing a lot, and unfortunately, our great call in the beginning turned out to be not so great in the end. It's a shame that we end up losing the podium because I feel like we really deserved it today," Perez said.
