People who were in Amsterdam on Thursday must have looked surprised when Daniel Ricciardo was suddenly cruising through the canals in a boat. The boat was carrying the STR7, his 2012 Formula 1 car. The boat ride took place for the 'A decade of Daniel' auction, which was done on Catawiki. The proceeds will go to the Wings for Live Foundation, a foundation that does research into spinal cord injuries.

The auction is an ode to the career of the Australian, who has managed to win eight times so far but has been unable to contend for the championship. The car that will be auctioned is the car in which Ricciardo scored his first points in Formula 1. Several items from 2013 will also be auctioned, including the Alphatauri driver's 2013 racing suit and the gearbox he drove in 2013.

Ricciardo: 'Great to give racing fans this opportunity'

Ricciardo tells Catawiki that he has fond memories of the car he drove in 2012: "I remember starting the STR7 on race day. It gave me goosebumps. I felt a lot of confidence in the car. I love giving racing fans the chance to own special objects from the early years of my racing career."
