Besides the extra measures drawn by the organisers of the Zandvoort Grand Prix, a fireworks ban still applies. Fans are not supposed to just light their smoke flares, according to one of Zandvoort's directors Imre van Leeuwen. According to him, the smoke developments in the stands could have negative influences on fans' health.

"Because of the popularity of the sport and Max, fans brought these flares to Austria a few years ago. It looked great on TV," Van Leeuwen told Motorsport.com. "So a normal fan, not a hooligan but a normal fan, thinks he or she is a good fan if that person brings a smoke torch."

No smoke flares during GP Zandvoort?

"We have to inform people now that you are not a good fan if you have a flare, you are a good fan if you don't have a smoke torch. And if you see a flare, you say, 'Come on man, this is dangerous for my health'," Van Leeuwen said. The organisers will display information on the LED screens about pyrotechnics being banned.
