There is no doubt that Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes are keen to continue working together. Contract negotiations have been going on for a long time and according to the latest rumours, confirmation of the new deal will come out before the Dutch Grand Prix.

Hamilton was also reportedly tempted by Ferrari, but is said to have said 'no' to that. The seven-time F1 champion wants to stay with Mercedes. Other rumours were that the Briton had wanted a four- or five-year contract and also a lot of money for a 10-year 'ambassador deal'. Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport reported on Sunday that confirmation of a deal between Mercedes and Hamilton is imminent.

Hamilton extends contract for Dutch Grand Prix

The Italian newspaper cited the next two weeks as a time indication. Indeed, the news will come before the Dutch GP, which will take place in Zandvoort at the end of August 2023. What is going to be the most interesting point about the confirmation is the length of the contract. Corriere wrote: "The real surprise is going to be the agreed length of the partnership. Provided they don't hide behind a statement that it's going to be 'a multi-year deal'. This often means that escape clauses have also been added."

So, according to the Italian newspaper, it is no surprise that there will be an extension. It is just very important to pay attention to how the confirmation is brought out. A one-year deal speaks for itself. A multi-year deal could mean possible earlier termination and a specifically indicated duration of the contract could indicate that there is still a lot of trust from both parties.
