Russell and Alonso jealous of Verstappen's car: 'Should we gang up on him?'
In Germany and England, there will be a special 'Kids broadcast' of Formula 1 from the Hungarian GP weekend in 2023. For this broadcast, there was also a child present at the FIA press moment who put George Russell and Fernando Alonso on the spot with a question about Max Verstappen.
Indeed, the child asked the Mercedes driver and Aston Martin driver if they are jealous of Max Verstappen's car. The question was accompanied by a follow-up. Namely, the child was curious if they have thought of conspiring against him.
Russell and Alonso admit jealousy of Verstappen
Russell and Alonso both had a laugh. Russell: "Should we? Should we gang up on him somehow?" Alonso interrupted: "We are jealous." Then the two repeated: "We are jealous."
Russell continued, "For sure we're jealous, but we all get our opportunity to stand on that podium. He's given the opportunity a few more times than we are, but things have a way of working themselves out."
Russell is the man of the long haul. After three long years in the back of F1 at Williams, he finally arrived in 2022 at the most dominant F1 team of the decade before. Mercedes has only been trailing ever since. So Russell will likely have to wait a bit more. "So I'm sure, hopefully, the tables will turn in the near future," the Briton added. Alonso also concluded with saying: "I don't want to add anything."
