Ricciardo's lap times would have meant P2 at least at Silverstone'
- Sam Godber
Daniel Ricciardo has left a huge impression on Red Bull. The Australian covered a tyre test for Pirelli earlier on Tuesday. His lap times were very impressive, reports Lawrence Barretto writing for F1.com.
According to the journalist, Ricciardo's lap times were so fast that he would have been on the front row of the grid during qualifying for the British Grand Prix, provided he was in Max Verstappen' s or Sergio Perez's car. Ricciardo will spend the next six months on loan driving for AlphaTauri. The driver will have six months to prove himself.
Should Perez be worried?
Should Ricciardo have regained his speed of yesteryear, he could be an interesting option for Red Bull alongside Max Verstappen if Sergio Perez does not find his form again. The Mexican has failed to reach Q2 in Silverstone, whereas the times show that Ricciardo could have been on the front row. Ricciardo's spectacular performance marks the (provisional) end of the Formula 1 career of Nyck de Vries, who has been sacked from AlphaTauri.
