Horner hits back after Wolff statements: 'That's typical Toto'

Christian Horner is not a fan of the new engine regulations that will take effect from 2026. The Red Bull Racing team boss would like to see adjustments, but Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff stated that the chances of the regulations still being adjusted are zero per cent, and that Horner would fear Red Bull's engine project failing. Horner has since responded to this again to Sky Sports F1 and others.

Max Verstappen revealed earlier that he looked at the data from the simulations, and that the results were "terrible". For example, the two-time world champion states that at Monza, you would have to downshift 400 metres before the end of the straight because it would be faster.

Toto responds

Horner also criticised earlier, revealing that he hoped the ratio of electricity to combustion would change by five to 10 per cent. Wolff stated after the Red Bull team boss' remarks that they have fears at the Austrian team that the project will fail, and that is why they want to kill the plans.

According to Verstappen's team boss, however, none of this is true: "Unfortunately that's typically Toto where he's just focused on self-performance. My interest is actually about the sport rather than self-gain. It's still way too early to say who's going to have a competitive or uncompetitive engine in 2026… for me the most important thing is from a sports point of view, that we all have a collective responsibility to work with the FIA and the commercial rights holder to ensure that the product is as good as it can be, otherwise we've all failed."
