Renault trust Liberty Media to do everything possible to prevent 'B teams' being exploited by their Formula One rivals.

Liberty Media, the owners of the sport, are set to introduce a budget cap at the start of the 2021 season.

However, there are doubts about the budget cap - with some teams being able to get around the new rules and regulations by teaming up with their customers to share the financial costs.

The topic was on everyone's lips when Liberty Media approached Force India's rivals during their administration and Renault were one of the teams approached but they wanted the team not to become a 'B team' to Mercedes.

"If Force India is becoming a junior team of Mercedes, allowing Mercedes to transfer resources or workload and therefore improving their competitive situation vis-a-vis a future budget cap, that's a concern because we don't have that set-up," Cyril Abiteboul told RaceFans.net.

"Basically that would sanction the fact that you need that type of set-up, because that would be available for Mercedes and that's already available for Ferrari, and Red Bull have the capacity also (and) assets available. So all three top teams will be in that situation and we are not. So that's a major concern.
