Sergio Perez has been receiving a lot of criticism as a driver lately. At the start of the season, the Mexican indicated that he was going for the world title, but cannot (yet) live up to these expectations. Jan Lammers explains in the NOS Formula 1 podcast what he thinks the situation is.

"People say: your teammate is your first competitor. I really think that's parrot talk. Everyone says that because everyone says it. Your teammate is not your competitor. All 19 drivers you are competing against are not your competitors. You have the corners, you have the car and you have the engineers. When you come to a certain corner then your braking point determines how you take the corner. Things like that are your competitors," Lammers said.

"You also have to do it at the time it has to happen. That's your competition. Your own mistakes, you have to parry those. The mistake Perez is making is that he is too preoccupied with Verstappen, while verstappen is doing his job," Lammers said.

Perez is currently still second in the world championship, but Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso is about to pass him. The difference between the two Spaniards is nine points.
