Max Verstappen won his third Grand Prix of the season last Sunday and he did so in convincing fashion. After a handsome overtaking race, he also managed to overtake teammate Sergio Perez, thus the 25-year-old Dutchman also immediately dealt a blow in the battle for the world title. Helmut Marko enjoyed the World Cup leader.

Verstappen had to come from ninth place, having failed to set a time in qualifying in Q3 due to a mistake in his first run and a red flag caused by Charles Leclerc. Within 15 laps, Verstappen was already second, entirely under his own steam. From there it was chasing Perez and, to Marko's delight, he did so successfully.

"That was a demonstration by Max," the 80-year-old Austrian is complimentary. One overtaking action stood out to Marko. Verstappen was briefly stuck behind Kevin Magnussen, who in turn was behind Charles Leclerc. Both drivers were given the nod by a patient Max. "The way he overtook Magnussen and Leclerc.... that was a sight to behold."

Verstappen vs Perez

When ÖSTERREICH asks whether Verstappen has thereby not made it clear what the proportions are in the world championship, Marko says. "But that was always clear. Checo has certain street circuits like Baku where he is really strong. But in Miami, Max was lecturing everyone. The way he handled the tyres so he could still set the fastest lap at the end is something no one can imitate him."
