Sergio Perez largely has been outperformed this season by his team-mate Esteban Ocon, yet the Mexican has a point more than the French driver.

Force India driver Sergio Perez has been outclassed most of the season by Esteban Ocon in the other Force India car.

Despite this, Ocon has one less point than the Mexican and according to former Formula One driver Marc Surer, this is no coincidence anymore.

"What is so special about him is that he always likes to get a result," Surer told Motorsport-total.

"He is a bit lucky, but he succeeds. He keeps on biting into something and never gives up. Ocon might be faster but Perez is lucky."

Surer used to drive for Bernie Ecclestone in the Brabham and he is adamant he knows who the former F1 boss would have picked.

"Bernie would have always choose Perez," Surer claimed.

"He did not care how fast someone was. Someone with luck could bring him the big points he so badly needed as a small team. Force India can also use that well, so it would be logical if Stroll and Perez drive with Force India next season."

Perez has been linked with a move away from the financially-troubled Force India and has admitted that he may be forced to look elsewhere for the 2019 campaign.
