BREAKING: Raikkonen set to extend Ferrari contract!

According to F1Only.fr, Kimi Raikkonen is close to renewing his contract with Ferrari for another two years.

According to sources close to Ferrari, they are in the process of announcing the contract renewal of Kimi Raikkonen's contract for the next two years of Formula One.

Ferrari would prefer to keep Raikkonen for another two years - however, there is a possibility that the Finn can change the contract after the end of the 2019 season; if he pleases.

Following the tragic loss of Sergio Marchionne, Ferrari's former president, this has now enforced Ferrari to change to a different strategy for next season.

A strategy that has continuity of the experienced Sebastian Vettel and Raikkonen partnership.

When Marchionne was in charge, Ferrari were open about their interest in Sauber's young driver Charles Leclerc and the plan was to get the Monegasque driver in the team in time for next season.

Since Marchionne's death, the chances of Leclerc coming in for 2019 have all but disappeared and it appears as if Ferrari are set to keep the same line-up for next season now.

Ferrari are expected to announce the contract extension at the Belgian Grand Prix, although it may be made at the Italian side's home race at Monza that after the race at Spa-Francorchamps.
