Fernando Alonso has admitted Aston Martin's ambition is what attracted him to the project. At the unveiling of the Aston Martin for 2023, the Spaniard told GPBlog and others that other teams he has been with lacked the ambition he sees at Aston Martin.

Alonso has been running in Formula 1 for a while now. As a driver he drove for Minardi, Renault (now Alpine), McLaren and Ferrari, and in 2023 he will be on the track for Aston Martin. Despite Aston Martin competing in the midfield last year and being happy with points, Alonso sees an ambition there that he did not see at other teams.

'Here we only celebrate when we win'

"It is very different from other teams I have been with," the Spaniard explained. "They might have had success in the past and then were in a comfortable position. Then maybe they got fourth and were happy with fourth, if they got fifth, they were happy with fifth place. They got seventh and then that was a celebration. Here, there are no celebrations until we win. That is very appealing to me."

Whether that ambition will translate into points remains to be seen. Alonso has cited Aston Martin's ambition on several occasions, but is also realistic about the team's chances. For instance, he previously expressed that he does not expect to win races right away.
