The Hungaroring is the next venue on the Formula One calendar this weekend... here are some facts you may not have known ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix!

First Race Held:

This was back in August 10, 1986 - the eleventh round of the 1986 F1 season. A record 200,000 spectators were at the venue to see this. 76 laps was won by Brazilian Nelson Piquet - despite his fellow countryman Ayrton Senna starting on pole. Piquet was racing for Williams and had a fierce battle with Lotus' Senna. Piquet was the man that day, with Senna finishing second and another Williams driver, Nigel Mansell completing the podium.

Track Details:

4,014km (2.494 miles) - slightly smaller than last weekend's Hockenheimring - but with around 10 more laps to be raced this weekend. Held in the middle of the summer, this track is very dry and overtaking becomes difficult. "Monaco without the building" is its nickname for that sole reason.

Most F1 Races Won (Driver):

Lewis Hamilton has dominated the Hungarian Grand Prix in recent years and holds the record for the most wins at the course with five! However, Lewis didn't even manage to get on the podium in the last race in 2017, with a P4 finish! Hamilton beat Michael Schumacher's 4 wins at the track in 2016.

Most F1 Races Won (Team):

That crown goes to McLaren - eleven times winners on this circuit; the British team have dominated Hungary. Their first winner was F1 legend, Ayrton Senna dating back to 1987 and he went on to win on this course three times with McLaren! Mika Hakkinen won this in back-to-back years for McLaren in 1999 and 2000. Kimi Raikkonen, the 2005 winner before Lewis Hamilton won it three times for the side and Heikki Kovalainen in 2008.

Last Race:

The last F1 race here was back last year and Sebastian Vettel was victorious that day for Ferrari. The German started on pole and stayed there to clinch the win for Ferrari, who achieved a 1-2 finish with Kimi Raikkonen managing second place. Mercedes were next with Valtteri Bottas in third, and Lewis Hamilton finishing fourth - rather disappointingly considering his record on the track.
