Marko sees Verstappen doing endurance racing: 'Was immediately very interested'

Max Verstappen has repeatedly made it clear that he will not take up IndyCar racing after his Formula 1 career, but that he finds endurance racing an interesting prospect. Helmut Marko seems to support those ambitions of his driver, according to a broadcast by ServusTV.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is definitely a race the Red Bull Racing driver would like to compete in. It is no secret that Max is all too keen to take part in the iconic race alongside father Jos. Incidentally, two-time world champion Fernando Alonso is also open to racing with Max at the famous enduro.

"I recently gave Max a book containing everything about big endurance races from the 1960s, also with great photos. He was immediately very interested. I think he would have a lot of fun participating in endurance races. Given his speed and talent, he will undoubtedly be successful there too. That can be done without the pressure he now naturally faces in Formula 1," Marko let the Austrian television station note.

Verstappen's future

Verstappen has indicated several times in 2022 that he is highly unlikely to continue in the king class of motorsport for as long as Fernando Alonso (41). This is because he wants to explore other things in motorsport and be active in an environment with less pressure. It could just be that the reigning world champion has already signed his last F1 contract by now. That would mean Verstappen could make the switch to another racing class in 2029. He will be 31 by then.
