Former F1 driver Romain Grosjean speaks positively about Frederic Vasseur making the move to Ferrari. The Frenchman also thinks the Italian team will compete for the title in 2023.

Recently, many rumours were circulating about a possible dismissal of Mattia Binotto and the intended successor. Now that Vasseur has officially been given the role of team boss, there are question marks over whether he will really be the right man in the right place. Grosjean knows his compatriot well and is convinced of his abilities. Indeed, with Vasseur in the role of team boss, Grosjean was successful in the Formula 3 and GP2 Asia step-up classes before making the move to Formula 1.

Challenge

Being at the helm of Ferrari is obviously a very different role, but the former Lotus and Haas driver thinks Vasseur is the right man for the team from Maranello.
Speaking to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, the new Lamborghini driver spoke very positively about the brand-new Ferrari team boss. Grosjean acknowledges that leading Ferrari is a huge challenge for anyone. "But Vasseur can do it," he added.

Many see Vasseur's choice as a "favour" to Charles Leclerc, who made his F1 debut at Sauber in 2018 and trusts the French team boss through and through. Grosjean confirms the excellent relationship between the two, but does not believe the appointment was made to allow Sainz to be second driver. "He and Leclerc are very good friends and that helps the environment, but he also knows Sainz well," he informed the Italian newspaper. Grosjean called the car good, but management in 2022 simply not going as well. Still, he is confident: "In 2023 he is going to compete for the World Championship".
