Christijan Albers does not understand why Red Bull Racing offered Sergio Perez a two-year contract. The Mexican was still performing well at the start of the season, but he was increasingly uncomfortable in the RB18.

Perez's contract extension was completed relatively early. After his victory in the Monaco Grand Prix, the news was announced that he would stay with Red Bull for another two years, but the more updates the team brought, the more trouble Perez seemed to have with the car.

Albers does not understand Red Bull decision

Albers has no sympathy for the team's decision to offer Perez a two-year contract. "I don't understand from Red Bull that they gave Perez a two-year contract. In the beginning I was enthusiastic about it because it gives peace of mind to Max," said the analyst at the Formula One podcast from The Telegraph.

Recently, however, he has invariably seen Perez driving far behind his teammate. Albers thinks Red Bull should dare to take a risk and put a young talent alongside Max Verstappen. " I want to see someone like a Norris or a Russell now," the former F1 driver continued. He also sees Liam Lawson as a good option to put alongside Verstappen. " Just take a bit of a risk for once and put him next to him," Albers concludes.
