'Not Porsche, Honda, but Ford new partner of Red Bull from 2026'

Red Bull Powertrains were due to team up with Porsche from 2026, but negotiations eventually broke down. Honda are said to be eager for a return to Formula 1 with Red Bull, but it is not the Japanese who are in pole position, according to Auto, Motor und Sport. Ford are now reported to be the main candidate.

The American brand is keen on an F1 entry and Red Bull is considered an ideal partner. The Milton Keynes-based team is very successful and that makes it very interesting for Ford. Red Bull Powertrains already has a prototype combustion engine on the test bench, Ford could possibly take care of the electric part.

Plans from Porsche and Honda

For Honda, meanwhile, getting involved with Red Bull is not a must. The Japanese team do seem to be applying to the FIA to develop engines from 2026. It is rumoured in the paddock that Honda will apply separately and not enter into a 'joint venture' with Red Bull Powertrains, but develop the complete power unit independently. They would then go on to supply another team with power units, although it is unclear which formation they have in mind for this.

Formula 1 would also be very keen for Porsche to sign up to the 2026 engine regulations. Porsche is currently exploring what alternatives there are now that a partnership with Red Bull is not in the cards. It is unclear who the Germans are in talks with and whether they are still as enthusiastic about a move to the premier class of motorsport.
