The FIA are going to propose a number of changes based on the latest Formula 1 Commission Meeting. As part of this, rain conditions will also be looked at, after it emerged that Formula 1 drivers are greatly hindered by spray on a wet track.

FIA reviewing regulations

The FIA is carrying out a "comprehensive review" of the sporting regulations for 2024, the governing body reported on its official website. A key part of this is improving visibility in extremely wet conditions, after this was found to have deteriorated in the new generation of F1 cars. As a result, sessions will be stopped earlier and longer than may be necessary.

These include looking at a standard bodywork solution designed to reduce spray while driving on a wet track. In addition, the extent to which the venturi tunnels under the floor pick up water from the asphalt is being studied. The FIA will also look at things like additional lighting to improve the visibility of the cars.

Apart from visibility in wet conditions, the FIA has a number of other changes in mind. For instance, next year F1 will test a rule change that will allow drivers to activate their DRS during sprints earlier than normal after the start of a race and after a safety car period. This rule should keep the field closer together after the start or restart of a race.

The FIA is also going to scrutinise grid penalties for engine changes. The governing body believes that the current system is not adequate to penalise strategic engine changes when it is not designed to do so.
