The United States Grand Prix was a good time for Michael Andretti to work hard to prepare for the eventual arrival of his own F1 team. At the Circuit of the Americas, the American said plans for 2024 still stand.

Michael Andretti sees good progress towards F1 entrance

The Andretti family name is well-known in Formula 1, but these days mostly in IndyCar. Michael Andretti is eager to add his own eleventh team to the grid, but this is proving difficult. His father and former F1 champion Mario Andretti, spoke to GPBlog before the US GP and said the team is ready to join as soon as possible.

Speaking to Speed City Broadcasting last weekend, Michael Andretti said of future plans: "I can't say much yet, but we are making progress. We are moving in the right direction. It's nice that everyone is now in the same city [Austin] and a lot of work can be done." Andretti's prediction: "Our goal is still 2024."

Still no red light for Andretti

Notably, the FIA and the existing F1 teams are not yet as cooperative as the American formation had hoped. Andretti and his team have been making preparations for more than a year and more often than not cried that time was running out. The team needed to start practical preparations for the 2024 F1 season, but still has no commitment. Andretti: "It is still not certain, but we are not stopping preparations until we are told it is not going to happen."

Andretti seems to be taking a risk with this, but is determined not to stop forming and building his team until Formula 1 has rejected his plans. Who will be behind the wheel of the aspiring F1 team still seems a long way off, but Andretti can say with certainty that Colton Herta can count on a seat.
